Beginning Spring 2017, the Compass Entrance Test will be replaced with the AccuPlacer Entrance Test, per USG recommendation. Test resources and more information are available here.
The AccuPlacer is used for placement purposes to determine whether learning support classes are needed and is optional. Students have the option to take the AccuPlacer Reading, WritePlacer, and Elementary Algebra to exempt Learning Support placement if acceptable SAT/ACT Scores are not provided. If the student chooses not to take the AccuPlacer and exemption criteria for support is not met, the default placement will be in an entry level collegiate course with corequisite support. Exception: students wishing to enroll in MATH 1111 College Algebra with or without corequisite Learning Support, must take the Mathematics Placement Test (AccuPlacer Math) unless they have met the criteria for direct placement into MATH 1111 with or without corequisite Learning Support. Students may also exempt Learning Support placement in English and/or Math if they have earned a grade of “C” or better in a collegiate level English and/or Math course from a qualified post-secondary institution.

A college education can open many doors, and South Georgia State College has given me the opportunity to pursue my career in music education. I have found friends that encourage me to shoot for the stars. You will find a home at SGSC.
Being a transient student at SGSC is a great way to be able to take a few summer classes while also being able to come home for the summer. My experience was very helpful because I was able to complete an internship while also taking classes all while being home for the summer.
National College Decision Day is May 1 and with so many factors to consider, making a final choice can be stressful. To ease some of your stress, fellow Hawk, Savannah Boykin, shares some advice on making a college decision.
At South Georgia State College, you’ll find we have way more to offer than just the status quo. We have faculty that truly care about our students, encourage them to get involved with fun activities on campus and make themselves available to ensure student success. If you’re one of our residential students on the Douglas Campus, you will have access to your own bedroom (yes, you read that right). Plus, no more community bathrooms and showers; at SGSC you’ll have a semi-private bathroom. If you’re looking for something to do, our Campus Life staff always have fun events of the week planned.
As your Dean, my goal is to create a vibrant community that enhances the quality of your student life experience. The areas that are under my supervision are: Residence Life, Housing, Campus Life, Athletics, Office of Student Conduct, and Title IX Coordinator. For more information regarding these areas, please click on the link below.
If there is anything that I can do to assist in your journey, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
