Orientation, reception held for SGSC dual enrollment instructors

South Georgia State College (SGSC) recently hosted an orientation session and reception for area high school teachers who are serving this spring as dual enrollment instructors for the College.

Teachers from Appling, Clinch, and Coffee County School Systems participated in the event, which included information about course syllabi and textbooks.  The many benefits and support services offered by SGSC to the instructors, students, and school systems was also discussed.

The program began in conjunction with the start of SGSC’s spring 2014 semester, and the classes are taught onsite at the respective high schools.  Students take college-level classes and receive both high school and college credit.  In most cases, tuition, some fees, and book expenses for students are waived.

“Dual enrollment is very beneficial to students and their families,” said SGSC President Dr. Virginia Carson.  “It’s a great opportunity for a number of students from an academic and financial perspective and helps local school systems enhance their academic offerings.  We are excited about the positive outcomes dual enrollment will bring for these young people.”

SGSC already has a dual enrollment partnership in place with Jeff Davis High School in Hazlehurst, Ga.  Several other school systems are currently in discussion to possibly begin the program this fall.
