Get To Know SGSC's Women's Softball Coach - Jeff Ellis
Coach Jeff Ellis enters his second year at the helm of the Lady Hawks Softball program, in his 1st year Ellis oversaw a program that increased its winning percentage by over 400%. In addition 5 Lady Hawks were honored as All Region selections, 4 were named NFCA All American Scholar Athletes and 2 were named NJCAA Academic All Americans.
Coach Ellis comes to SGSC with over 30 years of coaching experience including 18 at the collegiate level. Prior to becoming the Hawks head coach, he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Florida. In his eight seasons at Polk State, Coach Ellis led the Eagles to four Conference Championships and was named Conference Coach of the Year four times (2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014). While at Polk, he amassed 265 wins including four 40-win seasons and coached nine players who earned NJCAA All-American honors including the 2014 NJCAA National Player of the Year.
Prior to his time at Polk State, Coach Ellis spent nine seasons as the pitching coach at Indian River State College, Siena College and Lynn University. During the summers from 1996 through 2003, he served as an assistant coach with the world-famous Stratford Brakettes helping them win ASA Women’s Major National Championships in 2002 and 2003. While with the Brakettes Coach Ellis had the privilege of coaching Olympic Gold Medalists Danielle Henderson, Kelly Kretschman and Cat Osterman. In addition he has coached Olympians Leslie Malerich, Greta Cecchetti and Ilaria Cacciamani(Italy) and Aimee Murch(Australia) at the collegiate level.
Coach Ellis earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Sacred Heart University and his master’s degree in sports administration from Lynn University. He currently resides in Broxton.
