South Georgia State College Hawks earn NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards

South Georgia State College student athletes and three SGSC teams earned All-Academic Awards from the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). Thirty-two individual SGSC Hawks earned at least a 3.6 GPA during the past academic year (2020-21), including five who achieved perfect 4.0 averages.

 “With the challenges of the past year, our student-athletes have shown that determination and hard work create success in the classroom and in their respective athletic programs,” said Dr. Greg Tanner, SGSC Vice President of Advancement, Government Relations and Athletics. “Their efforts are evident, and it has truly shown the caliber of students we have at SGSC. I have a great sense of pride in knowing that our student-athletes excel at the college level and will continue to carry their work ethic into other areas of their lives. I see nothing but success for them as they move forward.”

Women’s Swimming, Women’s Soccer and Cross Country earned Academic Team honors for posting a composite GPA of at least 3.0.

Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2020-21 academic year. A 4.0 GPA is required for the NJCAA All-Academic First Team, a 3.80-3.99 GPA is required for the All-Academic Second Team and a 3.60-3.79 GPA is required for the All-Academic Third Team.

Student-athletes on the All-Academic First Team are Clayton Smith, Baseball; Mason Spivey, Baseball; Mack Williams, Baseball; Hannah Jelercic, Soccer; and Ryleigh Smith, Swimming.

The All-Academic Second Team is comprised of Zulmy Tapia, Cross Country; Hayden Hall, Baseball; Carlos Hernandez, Baseball; Jacob Fletcher, Baseball; Mikah Gustavson, Baseball; Ethan Johnson, Baseball; Amanda Frederick, Soccer; Hannah Keene, Soccer; Adriana Mateo-Lopez, Soccer; Daniella Dayani, Soccer; Elizabeth Soto, Softball; Kara Clark, Softball; Garrett Holton, Swimming; and Ellie Perkins, Cross Country.

Student-athletes on the Third Team are Tyler Deloach, Baseball; Matthew Snider, Baseball; Luke Cooper, Baseball; Cole Gregory, Baseball; Wes Lott, Baseball; Alexandra Reyes-Estrada, Soccer; Aubrey Harrison, Soccer; Maelah Giddens, Soccer; Martina Garrido, Soccer; Madyson Lamp, Softball; Madeline Booth, Swimming; Malik Allen, Basketball; and Jesse Harbin, Basketball.
