South Georgia State College Hawks earn NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards

Posted on Jul 06, 2020

South Georgia State College student athletes and six SGSC teams earned All-Academic Awards from the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). Twenty-nine individual SGSC Hawks earned at least a 3.6 GPA during the past academic year (2019-20), including seven who achieved perfect 4.0 averages.

"At South Georgia State College, we emphasize that getting an education is the priority,” said Dr. Greg Tanner, SGSC Vice President of Advancement, Government Relations and Athletics. “Our coaches include study time before or after practices and are utilizing the services of SGSC’s Academic Success Center. They stress time management skills and incorporating study habits into their daily routines. We hope that will carry over into other areas of their lives, even outside of athletics. We are excited at the number of All-Academic Awards at SGSC and take pride in knowing many of our student athletes also excel in the classroom.”

Basketball, softball, women’s and men's swim, cross country and soccer earned Academic Team honors for posting a composite GPA of at least 3.0.
