SGSC softball team hosts Community Little League

Posted on Mar 16, 2014

The South Georgia State College softball team had a busy weekend. The Lady Hawks began their stretch on Thursday at East Georgia College in Swainsboro. The Lady Hawks fell short to the Lady Bobcats, 5-1 and 8-6. Kathryn Dunn and CeeJay Ham went a combined 5-for-10 at the plate with three runs scored and both drawing four walks.

The Lady Hawks hosted a doubleheader Friday against the Georgia Highlands College Lady Chargers. SGSC fell behind early in the first game and struggled to come back, losing, 8-4. The second game was a close one as well. The Lady Hawks held the Lady Chargers scoreless until the 7th inning. Unfortunately, two errors gave Georgia Highlands the lead. Ashley Lane gave a great effort on the mound pitching a full seven innings and giving up only two earned runs.

In between games, the Lady Hawks hosted community little league teams. Several teams came out to watch the doubleheader and to be recognized. The Lady Hawks brought the younger players on the field and gave away SGSC stickers, pennants, and raffled off softballs signed by the SGSC softball team.

The SGSC softball team will host camps this summer.  The first one is scheduled for the weekend of May 23rd, and the second in late July. Camp information will be posted soon on the SGSC website.

The Lady Hawks are currently 0-4 in the conference but plan to bounce back next Tuesday, March 25th as they host Thomas University at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
