SGSC Pulls Away In Second Half To Defeat Central Georgia Tech

Posted on Feb 07, 2018

South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team overcame a poor shooting night to defeat the Central Georgia Tech Titans 76-69 in GCAA conference play Wednesday night.

The Hawks (17-6, 6-3) made only 12 baskets in the first half (32 percent) and still led 36-33 at halftime. Things improved slightly in the second half as the Hawks shot 43 percent from the field but still finished the game shooting 38 percent as a team.

“Despite our shooting percentage, I would say we did a good job late taking away some of their open shots,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “We also rebounded the ball well in the second half, which also made a difference.”

The Hawks had three players finish in double figures. Keyshaun Street led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Nate Louis with 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Jacob Spence finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The win moves the Hawks back into sole possession of third place in the GCAA behind Georgia Highlands and South Georgia Tech. Seven games remain on the schedule, with two of those on the road against the conference’s top two teams.

The Hawks will play their next home game against Andrew College this Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. on the Douglas Campus as part of SGSC’s Homecoming activities. The next Waycross Campus home game will be Saturday, Feb. 17 against Atlanta Metro. Tip for the Atlanta Metro game is also set for 4 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
