AMERICUS – The No. 24 South Georgia State College Hawks overcame a 16-point deficit to win their tenth game in a row Wednesday night, defeating South Georgia Tech, 84-81.

Daniel Peace led the Hawks (15-1, 4-0) with 28 points, five assists, and four steals.  Jovante’ Spivey had 19 points and four steals.  Cody Helgeland finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while Demontrez Austin and JeVaughn Sanchez each had 12 points in the win.

The Hawks trailed by 16 points in the first half and didn’t take their first lead of the game until six minutes left in regulation.

“The guys just wouldn’t quit fighting,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.  “They (South Georgia Tech) made nine 3-pointers in the first half and none in the second half.  I think that was the difference in the game.”

The 10-game winning streak ties a school record.

The Hawks return home Saturday afternoon to face Georgia Perimeter in another conference game.  Tip is set for 4 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
