Posted on Oct 31, 2017

Bernard Majdi (third row, center), associate professor of chemistry/biology at South Georgia State College (SGSC), was invited recently to lead the monthly meeting of the Junior Naturalists at the Okefenokee Swamp Park (OSP). Majdi led the Junior Naturalists participants in experiments. Kathi Murray (third row, right), environmental educator for the OSP and Okefenokee RESA, serves as coordinator of the Junior Naturalists program and said the participants loved the experiments. Pictured are (first row, L-R) Gage Corley and Sarah Ogle; (second row L-R) Alex Eaves, Jonas Van Wyck, and Emma Hackett; (third row L-R) Gina Ogle (volunteer), Majdi, and Murray. The Junior Naturalists is a camp for children 8-12 years old who meet on the fourth Saturday of each month from January through October. Participants learn more about the Okefenokee Swamp, its plants, animals, environment, and history. Service projects are also completed, including the removal of invasive plants, planting and caring for sugar cane, and cleaning the buildings on Pioneer Island.
