Posted on Feb 22, 2021

The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named South Georgia State College’s Jalen King as the Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 15.

King, a 6’5” sophomore from Columbus, Ga., averaged 15.3 points, seven rebounds, 2.33 assists, shot 48.6 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the free throw line in three SGSC wins last week against Central Georgia Tech and Andrew College.

King is currently in the GCAA’s top ten in the following categories: field goals made, free throws made, offensive/defensive/total rebounds, total points and points per game. He is the first Hawk to receive Player of the Week honors this season.

The Hawks (11-0, 5-0) are off to their best start in program history and have received national attention this week, landing at No. 19 in the latest NJCAA poll released today. SGSC has outscored its opponents by an average of 95-62 so far this season.

The Hawks travel to Rome, Ga., Tuesday to face No. 21 Georgia Highlands. SGSC will host Georgia Highlands Thursday at 5:30 pm in Waycross.

SGSC’s regular season schedule was shortened to 22 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free. Limited tickets will be sold for each home game in Douglas and Waycross to accommodate social distancing, and face coverings are required at each site. No game or season passes are available for the 2021 season.
