Holmes' buzzer-beater lifts SGSC

Posted on Dec 17, 2013

DeAndre Holmes hit a short jumper at the buzzer Tuesday night to give the South Georgia State College Hawks an important 54-52 conference win over Central Georgia Technical College.

The win also extended SGSC's current winning streak to three games.

Ty Bull led the Hawks (8-4, 2-1 GCAA) with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Holmes had 14 points.  Lavontay Evans finished with eight points and 13 rebounds, while Daniel Peace had eight points, five assists, and three steals.

The Hawks built a 29-20 halftime lead and extended it to 38-25 at the 12:30 mark in the second half.  The lead slowly evaporated as Central Georgia Tech went ahead for the first time with two minutes left in the game.

"They (CGTC) did a great job of making adjustments in the second half," said head coach Cory Baldwin.  "Even though I was extremely disappointed with losing the lead in the second half, I was proud of how our guys responded."

The Hawks will enjoy their last-second win over the Christmas break and then return to action Jan. 2 at home against TAAG Academy.  Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m.  General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
