Posted on Feb 27, 2015

Gordon State College took advantage of a strong offensive performance in the second half Thursday night to defeat No. 18 South Georgia State College 70-66.

“We led at halftime, but they (Gordon) caught fire in the second half and hit seven three-pointers,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.

Jovante’ Spivey led the Hawks (25-5, 14-4) with 20 points and six steals.  Cody Helgeland had 11 points, while DeAundray Rhett and JeVaughn Sanchez each finished with nine points.

The Hawks will now turn their attention to the GCAA Conference Tournament, which begins at home with a quarterfinal game Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  If the Hawks win Tuesday night, they will host the semifinals and finals March 6-7, respectively.
