Posted on Nov 18, 2016

South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team defeated Combine Academy Charlotte Friday night 95-74 on the first day of the two-day Applebee’s Okefenokee College Classic.

“Tonight was an all-around great team game,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.

Zaquavian Smith, the reigning GCAA Player of the Week, led the Hawks (5-1) with 20 points, three assists, and three steals. Zaire Cook had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds along with two steals. O’Showen Williams finished with 13 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, while McKinley Chambless rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and six rebounds.

The win helped the Hawks rebound from a loss earlier this week on the road to USC-Salkehatchie.

The Applebee’s Okefenokee College Classic continues Saturday afternoon with two games. South Georgia Tech will play Combine Academy Charlotte at 2 p.m., and SGSC will play Southern Crescent Tech at 4 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
