Hawks Basketball Rolls In Season Opener

DOUGLAS - The South Georgia State College Hawks opened the 2023 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 107-64 win over the Reinhardt University (JV) Eagles.

Five players scored in double figures for SGSC, led by Kyric Davis (16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists). Joseph Bell had 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Devon Rainey (13 points), Lay Davis (11 points), and J’Vonni Roblejo (10 points).

The Hawks shot 54.2 percent from the field, missed only three free throws (84.2 percent), and grabbed a total of 58 rebounds. SGSC’s defense held the Eagles to 32.1 percent shooting.

SGSC travels to Panama City, Fla. this Thursday and Friday for the Gulf Coast State College Classic. The Hawks will return home to play their first Waycross Campus game Friday, Nov. 17 as part of the 10th annual Applebee’s Okefenokee Classic. SGSC will face Wake Technical Community College at 8 p.m. and play Polk State Community College on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.

The SGSC athletic department has announced a change in ticket pricing for home basketball games. All regular season home games are now $7 with children five and under admitted free.
