Posted on Dec 09, 2017

The South Georgia State College Hawks completed the sweep of the Chick-fil-A Classic in Waycross Saturday afternoon with an 82-64 win over Combine Academy Charlotte.

Luke Lawson was an important offensive weapon again, leading the Hawks (8-2) with 21 points. He was 7-for-8 from the three-point line and missed only one other field goal. Charles Botchway had 13 points, three assists, and four steals. Dwayne Wilson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Head coach Cory Baldwin was proud of how his team played defensively, holding Combine Academy to a 43 percent field goal percentage and 26 percent from beyond the three-point line. The Hawks also forced 24 turnovers.

“This was the best defensive game we’ve had all season,” he said. “Also, I think Luke must like Chick-fil-A, because he had some great games in this classic.”

The Hawks travel to USC-Salkehatchie Tuesday for a road game before returning home for a four-game homestand that will carry the team into 2018. The first game of the homestand will be Friday night against Florida State College-Jacksonville (FSCJ). FSCJ defeated the Hawks 89-79 in Jacksonville Nov. 30.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
