Feb. 10 Game 1: SGSC Hawks Nabs Win Over Brewton Parker JV Despite Early 3-Run Inning

South Georgia State College (SGSC) Hawks claimed a 9-4 victory Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, in game one of a doubleheader, despite a big push by Brewton Parker JV in the fourth inning. The Hawks opened up scoring in the second inning, when Mason Spivey hit turned into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

The Hawks saw the ball well, racking up 15 hits in the game. JT Rice went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead SGSC in hits, followed by Christian Campbell, Matthew Warren, Clayton Smith and Brandon Redd, who all managed two hits each. JR Lonon, Tyler Spence, Carlos Hernandez and Mason Spivey contributed one hit apiece. The single home run on the day came when Spivey went for the long ball in the third inning.

Adam Benefield earned the victory on the mound for the Hawks. He lasted three innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out two and walking one. Chantz Cruz and Kasin Old entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Cruz recorded the last 11 outs to earn the save for SGSC.
