Evans signs with Lee University

Posted on Apr 23, 2014

Lavontay Evans, a member of South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team, has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. next season.

Evans, a 6’6” sophomore from Millen, Ga., averaged 5.3 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Hawks during the 2013-2014 season.  He finished among the top 10 players in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association in three rebounding categories – offensive rebounds (112), total rebounds (255), and rebounds per game (8.2).

“I’m very excited to play for Lee University next season.  I’m expecting big things,” said Evans.

Head coach Cory Baldwin praised Evans’ accomplishments on and off the court.

“When Lavontay first came to campus, he was more of a football player and developed into a basketball player.  He’s also been a great student who will graduate this summer,” said Baldwin.  “I’m very proud that Lavontay has done what a player should do in a two-year program – get better as a player and graduate to move on to the next level.”

Evans is the second player from last season’s team to sign with a four-year college or university.  Thirty-two of Baldwin’s players have signed letters of intent to play at the next level since the program began in 2009.
