Hawks Baseball Goes 2-2 against St. John’s River
South Georgia State College Hawks baseball went 2-2 against the St. John’s River Community College Vikings this weekend, splitting a double header at home on Friday and another in Palatka, FL, on Saturday.
Game One on Friday had sophomore Joe Parete on the mound for the first five innings of the game, allowing no earned runs, walking four, and striking out six. The Hawks scored two runs early in the game, and another in the seventh. They had a rough patch of pitchers after Parete was relieved of the mound, leading to a final score of Vikings 8, Hawks 2.
Game Two on Friday had the Hawks determined to win against the Vikings. Sophomore Bryse Buster took the mound and the Vikings were able to only score once off of his pitching. The Hawks scored in the bottom of the second to take the early lead, and the winning run came from an RBI by sophomore Phillip Hart. The final score was Hawks 2, Vikings, 1.
Saturday’s double header went much the same as Friday, with Game One going to the Vikings 7-6, and Game Two going to the Hawks 11-0. Game One had the Hawks in an early lead of 2-0 in the top of the first with runs scored by sophomores Tyler Ammerman and Phillip Hart, but the Vikings gained on them in the fourth, and ultimately overcame the Hawks after seven innings.
The Hawks had an early lead in Game Two on Saturday with seven runs in the first three innings, and scored another run with a homerun by sophomore Chase Morris in the fifth. Freshman Cayden Hatcher had the mound, and kept the Vikings from scoring as he pitched a shutout.
The Hawks travel to Mt. Vernon, GA, on Wednesday to play Brewton Parker’s JV, and will play at home again on Saturday the 28th at 1:00 pm against Central Florida Community College.
